GEO is the new SEO — here's how we measure it
By The Xicmo Team
GEO is the new SEO
Search is moving to generative engines. When a user asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overviews a question, they get a single answer with a handful of cited sources — not ten blue links. If your brand is not among those citations, you are invisible.
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — is the practice of making your brand the one that gets cited.
How we measure it
The GEO Agent runs a curated list of prompts relevant to your workspace across multiple LLMs. For each prompt, it asks:
- Was my brand name mentioned?
- Was my URL cited?
- What alternatives were mentioned instead?
From those signals we compute a weekly GEO score (0–100) and track trends. When the score drops, the agent surfaces an action item with the specific prompt that is now citing a competitor.
What you can do about it
- Publish dense, authoritative content that LLMs want to quote.
- Get mentioned across third-party sites (review sites, Reddit threads, HN front-page).
- Maintain a clean structured-data footprint so crawlers understand your brand.
All three are first-class agents inside Xicmo.
